Where Is the Real Bell?
Before 2003 the bell stood in a glass pavilion on Independence Mall, where it moved for the Bicentennial in 1976. Independence Hall, its original home as the State House, is across Chestnut Street. Replicas stand in many places: dozens of full-size copies were cast in 1950 for the states and territories, and the much larger Centennial Bell hangs in the Independence Hall steeple.
