In short: the Liberty Bell has no ticket. According to the NPS, admission to the Liberty Bell Center at 526 Market Street is free and no tickets are required: entry is first come, first served, through a security screening, daily from 9 am to 5 pm. A search for “Liberty Bell tickets” therefore leads to one of three things: nothing at all, the free timed ticket for Independence Hall across the street, or a tour or ticket built around the bell. Three meanings of “Liberty Bell tickets”

Nothing. The bell hangs in the Liberty Bell Center on Independence Mall. Visitors walk up, join the line and go through an airport-style screening; the NPS page says “NO tickets are required. Entrance is first-come, first-served.” The bell can also be seen through the large windows on Chestnut Street at any hour, without queueing. The window view page explains where to stand.

The Independence Hall ticket. Independence Hall stands on Chestnut Street between 5th and 6th Streets, across the street from the Liberty Bell Center. Its guided tours are the nearby visit that does need a ticket: a free, timed one, reserved on recreation.gov up to 30 days ahead, with a small reservation fee per ticket shown on that site. What none of them is

None of the six is a ticket to the Liberty Bell, because there is no such ticket. The NPS states that “Admission is FREE” at the Liberty Bell Center and lists a visit at 15 to 55 minutes, plus a wait that varies. The line waits outside in an uncovered area, and Visit Philadelphia notes that lines can be long in peak seasons. Security screening closes shortly before 5 pm, per the NPS. Details on the Liberty Bell Center, Independence Hall and the other park buildings come from nps.gov; checking it before a visit is a good idea, since hours and procedures can change.

Local tip
